How to Jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 For iPad 3 (New iPad), iPad 2, iPad 1 Users Using Redsn0w [Untethered]

How to Jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 For iPad 3 (New iPad), iPad 2, iPad 1 Users Using Redsn0w [Untethered]
iPhone Dev team has just released Redsn0w 0.9.12b1 that includes support for untethered iOS 5.1.1 for iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 3, iPad 2iPad 1, iPod touch 4G and iPod Touch 3G.
In this article, we will take you through the step-by-step procedure to jailbreak your iPad on iOS 5.1.1 using Redsn0w for both Mac and Windows users.

Here are some important points to note before you proceed.
  • This guide is meant for iPad users.
  • Redsn0w 0.9.12b1 supports 5ntethered jailbreak.
  • Redsn0w 0.9.12b1 supports iPad 3, iPad r, iPad 1 running on iOS 5.1.1 .
  • Please ensure your iPad is on iOS 5.1.1 (Settings --> General --> About --> Version should be 5.1.1) before proceeding.
  • Please note that jailbreaking your iPad may void your warranty and hence proceed with caution and at your own risk.
  • Please do not forget to backup your iPad before you proceed. You can refer to this post for instructions on how to backup your iPad.
  • Please ensure you are running latest version of iTunes.
  • Important: iPad 1 users who have a lot of media on your device, then you can jailbreak your iOS device by putting it in DFU mode (we'll update this guide with additional instructions for it shortly).
You can follow these step-by-step instructions to jailbreak your iPad:

Step 1: Download Redsn0w for Windows from this link and Redsn0w for Mac from this link and save the application in a folder named "Redsn0w" on your desktop.

Step 2: Double click the Redsn0w zip file and extract the application to the Redsn0w folder and then launch the Redsn0w application.
Windows users should run Redsn0w as ‘Administrator’ (right-click on the Redsn0w exe and select 'Run as an Administrator').

Step 3: After launching Redsn0w, click on the Jailbreak button.

Step 4: Redsn0w will start the jailbreak process and go through the following three steps:
1. Preparing
2. Processing
3. Finishing up

Step 5: Once the three steps are completed, Redsn0w will inform you that the jailbreak was successfully installed. But please wait, leave your device alone. Your iPad will reboot on its own. After it has rebooted, wait for it respring again.

After the respring, your iPad will be successfully jailbroken and you should be able to find the Cydia icon on the Home screen (please note that the Cydia icon may not be on the first page, so don't assume that your iPad hasn't been successfully jailbroken, use Spotlight to search for it).

After the jailbreaking process is complete, do not forget to checkout our article on tips to keep your iPad secure.

If you're new to the jailbreaking world and wondering what to do after jailbreaking your iPad, checkout our jailbreak apps category page to find out the apps you can install on your iPad using the Cydia app.

iOS 6 to Get OS X Mountain Lion Features Such as iCloud Tabs Support, “Do Not Disturb” Toggle For Notifications, Mail VIPs

9to5Mac continue to leak more information about the features in iOS 6.

They've just reported that some of the new features from OS X Mountain Lion such as iCloud Tabs support, Mail VIPs, "Do Not Disturb" toggle for notifications will make their way to iOS 6.
OS X Mountain Lion will include a number of popular apps and features such as Messages, Notes, Reminders, Game Center, Notification Center, Share Sheets, Twitter integration and AirPlay Mirroring from iPad, so it is not surprisingly to see some of the new features introduced in ninth and next major release of OS X are coming to iOS 6.

Here's how some of the new OS X Mountain Lion features will work in iOS 6, according to Mark Guman of 9to5Mac:

Cloud Tabs:
iCloud Tabs is a feature that allows iCloud users to view a list of tabs opened in the Safari web browser across multiple iOS devices and Macs. Although previously rumored, iCloud Tabs is not a feature – in its initial implementation in iOS 6 and Mountain Lion – that syncs your entire current web browser work across devices. When the iCloud Tabs button is clicked on an iOS 6 device (or Mac), all the tabs opened on each device are simply shown in a synchronized list. From here, users can quickly pickup individual tabs that they were working on across their Apple devices. The iCloud Tabs button on the iPhone and iPod touch is hidden behind the Bookmarks toolbar.

Mail VIPs:
Like in Mountain Lion, Mail VIPs in iOS 6 puts a star next to emails received from a specified group of people. VIPs assigned to iCloud accounts will sync with iCloud across iOS 6 iPads, iPhones, iPod touches, and OS X Mountain Lion Macs. OS X Mountain Lion users have so-far praised the feature, as many users find themselves constantly looking for email from a select group of contacts.

Do Not Disturb toggle:

The Do Not Disturb toggle will allows users to block incoming alerts and banners. When we wrote about this feature coming to OS X Mountain, we were hoping that it comes to iOS 6. So good to know that it is also coming to iOS 6.

According to 9to5Mac, the Do Not Disturb toggle is stationed like the Airplane Mode button in the Settings app as seen in the mockup below.

With Apple adding such useful toggles in the Settings, we wonder when they will introduce SBSettings-like functionality so that we can access them quickly from any app without having to go through the hassle of exiting the current app, launching the Settings app and then enabling or disabling the toggle.

Let us know what you think about the possibility of features such as iCloud Tabs support, Mail VIPs, "Do Not Disturb" toggle for notifications coming to iOS 6. What's on your iOS 6 wish list?

Redsn0w, PwnageTool With iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak Support & Ultrasn0w For iOS 5.1.1 Released

Redsn0w, PwnageTool With iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak Support & Ultrasn0w For iOS 5.1.1 Released
iPhone Dev team has just released a new version of Redsn0w and PwnageTool, which includes Rocky Racoon and untethered iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak developed by pod2g and planetbeing that was used in Absinthe 2.0.x jailbreak.

If you were having problems jailbreaking your iOS device with Absinthe 2.0.x then you could try again using Redsn0w 0.9.12b1.

If you've already jailbroken your iOS device using Absinthe 2.0.x, iPhone Dev team's CLI tool or the Rocky Racoon 5.1.1 Untether, then you don't need to use Redsn0w or PwnageTool.

iPhone Dev team have provided the following information about Redsn0w 0.9.12b1 on their blog:

redsn0w allows owners of A4+earlier devices to install rocky-racoon two different ways:
  • backup/restore method similar to Absinthe and cinject
  • its traditional limera1n-based ramdisk install.  If you have a lot of media on your A4 device (music, movies, TV shows, etc), then the ramdisk method is preferrred because it avoids any possibility of later problems related to syncing to iCloud (including Photo Stream and Music Match).  The ramdisk method is not available for A5 devices or later because limera1n can’t be used.  If you’d like to use redsn0w’s ramdisk method, just be sure to put the A4 device in DFU or Recovery mode before starting redsn0w (otherwise it will immediately start to use the backup/restore method).
iPhone Dev team has also added support for the SAM unlock, which allows you to add the SAM tickets that you might have saved as part of your initial ramdisk jailbreak of iPhone 4 or earlier. Alternatively, it allows you can upload your SAM tickets to any device after its been jailbroken.

redsn0w accepts either the individual SAM activation ticket plist file, or the entire zip file created by redsn0w’s “Backup” button.

Redsn0w 0.9.12b1 now allows users to jailbreak their iOS device on iOS 5.1.1 all the way back to iOS 4.1.

PwnageTool 5.1.1 allows users who depend on Ultrasn0w to unlock their iPhone, to create and update iPhone with custom pre-jailbroken iOS 5.1.1 firmware file to preserve the baseband. PwnageTool is available only for Mac users. iH8sn0w had released Sn0wbreeze 2.9.5 for Windows users. Dev team has also released an updated version of Ultrasn0w (v1.2.7), which now supports iOS 5.1.1 that can be installed after preserving baseband with PwnageTool or Sn0wbreeze. iPhone Dev team have provided the following information about PwnageTool and Ultrasn0w:

PwnageTool also avoids any possible sync issues, but again it applies only to A4+earlier devices.  If you unlock your iPhone with ultrasn0w or a commercial method, you must use PwnageTool to avoid updating your baseband otherwise you’ll lose the unlock.  PwnageTool will also jailbreak+untether the AppleTV2,1 5.0_2B206f (unless you customize the IPSW further, you’ll have just basic SSH access to the device).

iPhone Dev team had included PwnageTool functionality into Redsn0w last year so it's not clear why they've again released PwnageTool as a standalone tool to create custom iOS 5.1.1 firmware file.

Here're the download links:
As always, let us know how it goes.

Sn0wbreeze 2.9.4 With iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak Support Released

Sn0wbreeze 2.9.4 With iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak Support Released
iH8sn0w has also released Sn0wbreeze v2.9.4, which includes suport for iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

Sn0wbreeze makes use of pod2G's iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak, which was released earlier today.

Sn0wbreeze allows users to create custom iOS 5.1.1 firmware file that is pre-jailbroken, which can then be used to upgrade their iPhoneiPad or iPod Touch to iOS 5.1.1. In case of iPhone, Sn0wbreeze also preserves the baseband from getting upgraded so that it can be unlocked using Ultrasn0w (though Ultrasn0w is not yet compatible with iOS 5.1.1).
Here's what's new in Sn0wbreeze v2.9.4:
  • Added the 5.1.1/9B206 untether that was released with today's absinthe update.
  • Added 5.0/9B206f (Apple TV 2) support.
  • Minor UI changes (thanks @icj_!).
  • Bug Fixes.
Sn0wbreeze 2.9.4 supports the following iOS devices running on iOS 5.1.1:
  • iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4
  • iPad 1
  • iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G
  • Apple TV 2
iH8sn0w has explained why Sn0wbreeze doesn't support iPhone 4S, iPad 2, which are powered by A5 chip and iPad 3 (the new iPad), which is powered by the A5X chip:

A5(X) Support?: As stated many times in the past, sn0wbreeze cannot be updated to work on A5(X) devices until a low level exploit in DFU or iBoot is found and made public. Therefore, A5(X) users will have to rely on using the lovely absinthe.

A5(X) Baseband Preservation/Hacktivation? For those running A5(X) devices and need to preserve your baseband, there is nothing you can do at the moment. For those wanting to hacktivate, the only advice I can give is to buy the carrier's SIM (the one its locked to obviously) on ebay. The SIM does not have to be active with the carrier to activate the phone.

Sn0wbreeze also doesn't support the revised iOS 5.1.1 software update that was released by Apple earlier today, so GSM iPhone 4 users should download the older iOS 5.1.1 from here.
In our opinion, Absinthe is the easiest way to jailbreak your iOS device if you're after only jailbreaking, but iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS users who depend on unlocking should use Sn0wbreeze or Redsn0w (whenever Dev team releases it with iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak support) as it preserves the baseband.
You can download the latest version Sn0wbreeze, which is available only for Windows users using this link.

How Many iPhones And iPads Did Apple Sell Last Quarter?

How Many iPhones And iPads Did Apple Sell Last Quarter?
Apple's expected to reveal iPhone and iPad sales figures for the past quarter this Tuesday at their quarterly earnings call. If you remember, Apple posted record iPhone sales of 37 million units for the quarter ending December, thanks to the momentum created by the launch of iPhone 4S in October.

The iPhone 4S has continued to expand its availability in the US, as well as other important markets like China and Apple's on track to introduce the new iPad to 9 new countries this Friday in addition to the 12 countries in which received the last week. Although these new countries won't contribute as much to the numbers Apple reports in the earnings call (the figures are from January to March), it shows that Apple is pushing its manufacturing line to churn out iPads and iPhones as fast as possible in order to meet demand.

Fortune's Philip Elmer-Dewitt spoke to various analysts and compiled estimates from all of them for both, the iPhone and the iPad

Would Apple surpass the record figure of 37 million iPhones sold? 13 out of the 48 analysts seem to think so. Most of the estimates are in the 30 to 40 million bracket. For the same quarter last year, the sales stood at 18.6 million units.

The iPad estimates for the same period range from 9 million to 15.5 million, as compared to last quarter's figure of 15.43 million iPad sales. If you're wondering why is the estimate low considering that the new iPad comes with a number of upgrades, remember that the device went on sale on the 16th of March, meaning that it only got a sales window of two weeks in the 3 month period.

Apple's quarterly earnings call is scheduled for the 24th of this month, and we'll be bringing to you all the key announcements from there, right here. Stay tuned.

For all the estimates, head over to this link for the iPhone and this for the iPad.
