Apple’s ‘Lucky Bag’ Goes On Sale In Japan

‘Lucky bag’ or Fukubukuro is a Japanese New Year’s Day tradition, where bags with unknown merchandise are sold at huge discounts. Every year, Apple participates in the Japanese “Lucky bag” tradition.

So as expected, Apple’s “Lucky bag” went on sale today. As usual it was greeted with long lines at the seven Apple stores, with buyers lining up since yesterday.

The Lucky bags are priced at ¥33,000 (~$390) and typically includes a couple of Apple products, an accessory and an Apple tshirt.

TechinAsia reports that the editor of Japanese Apple blog AppBank lined up from 6:00 pm yesterday, but was still 50th in the line. Here’s what he got in his lucky bag:

• Range Messenger bag, about $90
• iPad, 16GB wi-fi model, about $450
  
• Beats Solo HD headphones, about $230
• Apple New Year’s T-shirt, price unknown
• Logicool Keyboard cover for iPad, about $115
• Carbon Audio Zooka wireless speaker bar, about $92
• Lightning USB camera adaptor, about $33
• Mophie Juice Pack, about $80

He was one of the lucky ones to get an iPad and estimates the goodies to be worth approximately  95,000 yen (~$1100).  TechinAsia reports that some folks were even luckier and got a MacBook Air in their lucky bag, which was the best possible prize.

We would love to see Apple bring the lucky bag to the rest of the world. What say?
